On Wednesday, March 13, National Book Award Finalist Jason Reynolds stood in front of an auditorium packed with ninth grade students from across Anne Arundel County. “I want to be here to tell you my story,” he said, “but I want you to know your story is far more important than anyone else’s.”
Reynolds joined Glen Burnie High School as the keynote speaker for LitCon: Volume 1, Anne Arundel County Public Schools’ first teen literature conference designed to bring students together to connect and engage through a shared love of young adult literature. LitCon was one of the 11 AACPS programs selected to receive funding through through the 2018 Employee Give Campaign. Thanks to the generosity of AACPS’ Central Office and Satellite employees in this year’s campaign, the 21st CEF was able to cover the cost for three authors to speak with students during break-out sessions through Skype and provide lunch for all 270 student conference participants.
