Homeless Students in Need Fund
100Women

Did you know that more than 1,000 students in our county were homeless last school year? The 21st Century Education Foundation created a fund and has helped raise more than $10,000 to support these students. Last year, the money raised was able to help students with a variety of unique needs. The fund was able to send students to summer camp, pay for a driver’s education course, send a student on a field trip to Florida with the student’s dance team, and purchase necessities like clothing and toiletries.

This fund was generously seeded with the support of more than $8,000 from the Annapolis Chapter of 100 Women Who Care. Pictured above is Kerry Tucker, co-founder, 100 Women Who Care Annapolis.

If you would like to donate, go to www.aacps.org/helphomelessstudents.

Business Partner Spotlight: Homestead Gardens

STEM students in the Green Technologies pathway at South River High School embarked on a journey two years ago which would turn out to be much larger than they had expected. Together with CAT-South, students pieced together the framework of what would become the first Tiny House that STEM had ever constructed. When students ran into dead ends with the construction, Homestead Gardens volunteered to put on the finishing touches and donated time, materials, personnel, and space to complete the house. From wiring to structural sounding, hot water hook-up to the bathroom, and even transporting the house from CAT-South to their facilities, Homestead Gardens ensured all was well prior to the Tiny House Showcase on June 7, 2017 when they hosted the event at their headquarters.  At the conclusion, the house was donated to another community partner — Ocean Research Project — that will use the house as a shore-side water lab where they will host groups of students to further educate them on the ever changing conditions of the earth’s water. This project was a stunning display of partnership.
